Reducing the Impact on Air

  • Control of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) (On going Project): Bapco is taking steps to reduce the VOCs emission from Sitra, Marketing Terminal and Refinery storage tanks, by retrofitting of secondary roof seals to the light product tanks such as gasoline and naphtha. The programme has been ongoing since 1997, and it is anticipated that all regulated tanks will have secondary roof seals fitted by 2006.
    Estimated Cost: Million US$ 7

  • Refinery Gas Desulphurisation Project (Active Project): The objective of this significant project is to improve the quality of Refinery fuel gas and thus meet limits for Sox air emissions prescribed in the national regulations and the World Bank Organization guidelines. It’s currently in the bidding process. The entire project is scheduled for completion in early 2007.

  • Low Sulphur Diesel Production (LSDP) Project (Active Project): Another significant project currently underway, it will produce low and ultra-low sulphur diesel (50-10 ppm) to meet the latest specifications. This will improve significantly the air quality via Sox emission reduction. The entire project is scheduled for completion by 2007.
