Environmental Affairs Committee and Sub-Committees

An Environmental Affairs Committee comprising of senior management has been established to oversee the development and monitoring of environmental objectives and targets set to ensure compliance with legal requirements and the company’s Environment, Health and Safety policy.

The Hazardous Waste Management Committee’s function is to ensure that all hazardous waste generated within Bapco is identified, managed and disposed off in an environmentally sound manner and in accordance with national and international regulations.

Bapco has an ongoing programme for paper, cardboard, and printer and copier cartridges recycling. This programme also involves the Awali community where a dedicated Awali Recycling Committee has been in place since early 1990.

Bapco has well-established controls and operating procedures to minimise the risk of oil spills. In addition, Bapco has an in-house Oil Spill Response Committee (OSRC) the aim of which is to ensure that adequate resources are made available including a well trained staff to ensure a high level of preparedness and response for any oil spill incident that may arise. Bapco has also developed a detailed Oil Spill Contingency Plan, which is aligned with Bahrain’s National Oil Spill Contingency Plan. This plan is exercised on a regular basis to ensure preparedness for emergencies and is intended to assist company personnel in achieving a rapid and effective response to any oil spill arising from company operations.
Bapco is also a founding member of the Regional Clean Sea Organization (RECSO), an oil industry spill response cooperative, previously known as the Gulf Area Oil Companies Mutual Aid Organization (GAOCMAO), and assumes the chairmanship on a rotating basis.

Further, Bapco has established a working sub-committee aimed at publicizing, internally and externally, covering all the company environmental achievements, programmes and activities.
