Objective:
Protect the last mangrove site in Bahrain; Conserve the natural heritage, Outdoor Recreation and Tourism.

Geographical aspects:
A natural, shallow, sheltered bay in an urban/industrial area, near the northeast corner of Bahrain Island. The bay contains extensive inter-tidal mudflats mainly on the eastside.

Flora:
Salt-marsh vegetation with several stands of Black Mangrove Avicennia marina the last remaining in the country, Phragmites reed-beds and abundance of algae. Sandy areas support halophytic plants near date palm gardens.

Fauna:
An important site for migratory waterfowl. About 45 species of waterfowls including herons, shorebirds, gulls and terns have been recorded during migration seasons. The bay is considered as important spawning and nursery site for some marine fishes and prawns.
