Geographical aspects:
The site comprises two small flat, fossil coral islands, one of 0.12 km2 and the second of 0.027 km2, within 5 km of the coast in the Red Sea.

Flora:
Well-vegetated, with thickets up to 3 m tall of Salvadora persica and Suaeda fruitcosa; on more open ground there is Cyperus onglomeratus, Atriplex farinosa and Zygophyllum album.


Fauna:
The African Collared Dove Streptopelia roseogrisea is the single most numerous bird species on the islands. In Arabic language, the Collared Dove is called Al-Qamari. Thus comes the name of the island.
